And, no, before you ask I was not a military brat. I was a theatre brat.
Anyway, the point is that ... I kind of love moving. Not so much the packing up everything into boxes and carrying them down three flights of stairs part, but there are other parts that more than make for that.

Here are two things I love about moving:
- The fresh start. Starting over in a new town and a new house is like getting a chance to be a whole new you. When you walk into that empty house it hasn't accumulated any of the mess or disrepair or bad memories of your old place. With the boxes still in the truck, you can see a clean, organized, happy house where everything has a home and you have nothing but good memories. (We know it won't last, but at this point we can still dream.)
- The decluttering. When you pack up and move you have to lay hands on every object in your house. You have to wrap it up, transport it, and then unpack and find a home for it in your new house. That certainly makes you reevaluate whether you actually want or need that object. Do I really need the pair of Buffy-esque boots that I have never ever worn? Or the dress shirts I haven't worn since I taught full time? Or the piles of unused craft supplies I've dragged around for several moves? Donating those things lightens my load (physically and mentally) and helps out someone who might be looking for just those things.

I've moved offices twice in the past year, and I feel like I'm down to the essentials now. It's a good feeling to hold on to the special things but let go of the extras. Good luck packing, though!
I agree - moving is a good purge activity. You go through things and evaluate "can't live without" vs. "Really? This could use a better home." I held onto teaching supplies for ~5 years AFTER teaching. Finally, I boxed it all up and mailed it to friends who were still teaching or brought it to local schools. Good deed - done! More space in my garage - done!
We moved a lot. In fact, I was in a different high school every year. I hated it. I sank deeper and deeper into a shell of shyness and anxiety with each move.
I'm not a fan of packing and unpacking, but I LOVE decorating a new place.
If I could live anywhere, I think I'd choose London.
I moved just about as often as you did, only my family always stayed in the area. I have to say that as much as it has its downsides, moving sure is fun. Looking for houses is one of my favorite things, you get to plan out where everything and everyone would go. Then of course there's the joy of decorating and organizing a completely blank slate. Good luck with your move!
Where are you moving to Tera?

I'm not exactly moving to anywhere. I'll be in Oklahoma City with my folks for a few months and then hopefully I can travel for a while. Actually visit some of those places I keep saying I want to see. Then, after that, who know? Maybe Colorado or New York or California. Guess it depends on what's going on with me and the world when I decide.
I live in Western New York. Its great and i'm glad i've never moved and i'm never going to. I live in the rural area and its really quite. it's just perfect!

I used to move a lot, but I've lived in the same place for 6 years now, and am totally missing that whole purge/pack/start over process.
Good luck with your move!
