New York City (Part Two)

Well, you've read (and hopefully enjoyed) the recounting of my first two days in New York City. Here's the recap of the second half of my stay in the Big Apple.

Day Three
  • Get up at 7:00 am so Sharie can get to her Wednesday appointment.
  • Arrive ... way too early.
  • Have a latte and a pain au chocolat for breakfast.
  • Head to a nearby cafe to get some work done.
  • Need a change of scene.
  • Head to Borders to get some work done.
  • Have lunch at a crowded restaurant with a Hungarian hostess.
  • Browse F.A.O. Schwartz for a dragon that Sharie has already found.
  • Meet Sharie in front of Cartier.
  • Subway to the East Village.
  • Meet YA author Melissa Walker for tea at an adorably tiny and affordable tea shop called Podunk.
  • Drink tea, eat treats, and chat for hours.
  • Say goodbye to Melissa.
  • Search Yelp! for a nearby sushi restaurant.
  • Eat sushi.
  • And green tea ice cream.
  • Return to hotel to recover and watch American Idol.

Day Four
  • Get up at a leisurely hour.
  • Head back to 5th Avenue for Sharie's Thursday appointment.
  • Arrive way too early.
  • Check out Rockefeller Center.
  • Shoe shop at Saks.
  • Wander through St. Patrick's Cathedral.
  • Settling in for Diet Pepsi at TGIFridays.
  • Meet aspiring YA author Nisha Sharma.
  • Sharie goes to appointment, Nisha and I stay for lunch.
  • The Ugg trek to SoHo ... that came up empty.
  • Meet Sharie back at the hotel for drinks until we have to get ready for dinner.
  • Dinner at world famous Sardi's.
  • Try to identify the hundreds of celebrity caricatures.
  • Fail.
  • Wait outside the stage door at the Lion King.
  • Get escorted through the backstage to the house.
  • Watch the show from wonderful seats.
  • Bus it back to the hotel.

Day Five
  • Wake up sad for our last day in New York.
  • Pack and leave luggage with hotel.
  • Meet YA and romance author Sarah MacLean for lunch at 5 Napkin Burger.
  • Chat for hours.
  • Walk back to hotel.
  • Say goodbye to Sarah.
  • Hang out for a while until Sharie needs to cab it to the airport.
  • Say goodbye to Sharie.
  • Mail home evil boots and hotel amenities stash.
  • Hunt for more comfortable shoes to replace evil boots.
  • Fail.
  • Hurry back to hotel.
  • Reclaim suitcase.
  • Hurry to Penn Station.
  • Print out all tickets for trip, including New York to Philadelphia, New York to Montreal, and Seattle to San Francisco.
  • Wait for train track to be announced.
  • Get Sprite Zero and Combos from the shop.
  • Follow throng down to track 7W.
  • Board train.
  • Hunt for window seat.
  • Succeed!
  • Watch as New York fades into the distance.

I am now gone from the city, but had such a wonderful time I am already counting the days when I can go back. Which I hope will be very soon. I miss you already, New York.

Hugs,
TLC

PS -- If I get a raise or you discover some hidden affordable housing I'll come back for good!

Hmmm, clearly some people have Google alerts set up for their names....

@Sarah You were the one with the crazy schedule, so very glad we could make it work.

@Nisha Me too! Thank you so much for lunch and for going along with my fruitless quest. (In other news, I now have a new pair of sneakers, so the shoe hunt is over.)

@Melissa I know! Sharie totally thought of that at dinner later. Well, we'll just have to meet up at Podunk again next time and ask the lovely proprietor to snap a pic.

Had fun with all of you in the city and hope we can do more of the same soon!
