COOP2 15: Ice Hockey

Despite having been born in Minnesota and spending formative years in Canada, I didn't get into Ice Hockey until college. I'd transfered to the University of Colorado at Boulder and started there in the summer of 1996. Which also happens to be the same season that Quebec Nordiques moved to Denver and became the Colorado Avalanche. Where they ended up winning the Stanley Cup!

It was such an exciting experience. My roommate and I went down to the arena to watch Game 4 against the Florida Panthers on a huge projection screen hanging over the ice. When the Avs won, the place exploded. Colorado was in full-on celebration mode. Then we drove back down for the victory parade. Fire engine after fire engine full of hockey players waving at the crowd as music and streamers filled the air. Is it any wonder that I've had a soft spot for hockey ever since?

Today's bonus prize comes from a seriously cool chick who has more pen names than anyone I know: I WAS A NON-BLONDE CHEERLEADER by Kieran Scott and SNOW QUEEN by Emma Harrison (aka Kieran Scott). Here are the blurbs:

New Jersey transplant and sassy brunette Annisa Gobrowski has a problem—everyone at her Florida high school is blonde. If her Jersey attitude didn’t make her stand out enough, her dark pixie cut sure does. At least her new neighbor, uberhot, guitar-playing, football-wrestling-and-track star Daniel Healy makes her feel welcome.

But no lack of golden highlights is going to stop Annisa from making the best of Sand Dune High, especially once she checks out their competition-level cheerleading squad—one that actually appears on ESPN. Yet after a disastrous first day where Annisa accidentally breaks the most popular girl in school’s nose, ticks of Daniel’s girlfriend for even existing and discovers the cheerleaders all hate her, she starts having second thoughts.

It’s almost enough to make a girl run out for a box of Herbal Essences Amazon Gold.

Nevertheless, the cheerleader in Annisa just won’t let her quit. She may be a little different, but Sand Dune High had better watch out—this non-blonde is here to stay.

When tomboy Aubrey Mills flies to Vermont with her best friend Christie, she’s expecting two weeks of skiing, skating and fun in the snow. She never imagined she’d get sucked into the annual Snow Queen beauty pageant. But when she meets Layla Chamberlain, the snotty girl expected to win the crown, her competitive nature kicks in and she decides she has to take the girl down. Of course that may get a little bit complicated when Aubrey starts to fall for Layla’s gorgeous older brother Grayson, who thinks his sister is a perfect angel. Can Aubrey find love with her dream guy, while feuding with his sister and going for the crown?

Kieran's books are always a sure bet for a fun read that can pull you away from the real world for a while. Whether you're reading Non-Blonde Cheerleader on the beach, or Snow Queen on the slopes, you're going to have a great time.

To enter today's contest, tell me if you prefer snow or sun? It's beach versus mountain. Would you choose to spend a day surfing and sunning, reading under a beach umbrella? Or swooshing down the slopes and curling up next to the fire with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book? Answer in comments for your chance to win Oh. My. Gods. and Goddess Boot Camp and I WAS A NON-BLONDE CHEERLEADER by Kieran Scott and SNOW QUEEN by Emma Harrison (aka Kieran Scott).

We don't have snow here in our country, and since I've never experienced it (but really want to), I'll pick snow! :)

I will pick sun anyday. I'm a swimming, running, biking, girl, and hate being indoors in the winter.

Snow is definitely fun because I haven't experienced snow ever! I would love to see how it feels to swoosh down ice slopes LOL beach on the other hand has been a life long experience. I live by seaside so all the fun is already lost :)

Easy, I prefer snow... I love snowy/cold/wet weather. But I also hate the sun so snow would win anyway (I have my reasons - red hair = always sunburn, low tolerance for heat, bees come out in summer and it was a "perfect" sunny day the day my dad died so I tend to associate sunshine with my worst memory).

My choice would be sun. I love warm weather.

Sun, because it's what I'm used to. I wouldn't know what to do with myself in snow ;)

Wow, I didn't realize Kieran Scott had another pen name besides K.B....jeez, I'm missing out on more books by her!

I am not a fan of either, but I really can't stand snow so I guess I would choose sun.

I'm a snow person. Everyone hates me this time of year (February in Canada -- brr!) because I love the snow and run to the window smiling when a storm starts.

Feeling the sand between my toes. Sipping ice cold watermelon juice. Tucked with a book under the umbrella. Whoosh of the ocean. Eye candies. Need I say more? The beach rules!!

OMG I love hockey!! It's my favorite sport, and I have been watching it my whole life! :)
As for the question, I definitely prefer sun! Love spending time on the beach by the ocean during summer!

I love snow and the mountains, but I can't ski. Will snow tubing work instead? Or even better, hiking the trails through woods draped with snow. Yes, that's it. And endless mugs of hot chocolate by the fire through the evening. I'll take mine with either good conversation or a good book--or both.

Hmm...I would have to say snow. You can always bundle up more, but alas, you can only take so much off without causing a scene! LOL. XD (Summer is good too...body surfing and a little snorkeling, but I burn WAY to easy!)
I've actually read SNOW QUEEN within the last month or so...it was a lot of fun. Would love a chance to check out these other titles as well! Count me in!

Both. I love sun, but the snow is really funny.

Sun, everytime! Snow is cold, and I can't be doing with cold. I detest cold with a passion. I'd rather be too hot than too cold. I hate it!

Paromita said...

SNOW :), anyday. I just love winters. Nothing better than a hot cup of cocoa and a BOOK to go with it (to read, of course)

Erica said...

I definately prefer sun! I like looking at snow, like through a window, but once I go out in it I am not a fan. Sun on the other hand, I always love!

Amanda said...

I am a sun lover more than a snow lover. Sun is so wonderful and it reminds me of swimming. =]

I actually love rain the best!

Mg (LWS) said...

Right now I'm rooting for sun. Due to the amount of snow we've had were I live lately, and the fact that once it starts melting more comes. I like warm weather, but not hot. Spring should come soon!

Katy said...

For me it depends. I like when it's warm, but not too hot. With snow I like when there's actually enough to shut things down. I hate when there's just enough snow to cause traffic problems, but not enough to actually cancel school and work. That being said I think I prefer when it's cold to when it's hot, that way I can curl up in a big blanket with cocoa and a good book.

Ahhh. Watching the US/Canada Hockey game was AMAZING!!

ok, I love the SUN. No snow. Just sun. Sun. Sun. Sun.

Sun.

I would prefer snow because i haven't seen any here where i live (cali).

I like both, but I guess if I had to choose I would go with sun!

Sun! I am not liking all this snow. It's snowing where I am right now. It's not sticking or anything, but it's still snowing. Ugh. I'm sick of it. We've gotten too much. Sun makes me happy. Particularly spring sun. I love the spring.

I'm a snow girl. Winter is my favorite season and i love the cold and snow! i love skiing or snowboarding down a mountain at Holiday Valley and then sitting in the lodge at the end of a fun filled day plugged into my iPod watching people wipe-out on the hill. I'm so nice right? I love snow!!!

Anonymous said...

I need a mix of both. I grew up in a place where it rained more than anything so it's nice to be living somewhere that I can get a lot of sun but also get a lot of snow. The only problem is that both the sunny and snow seasons seem to last way too long for my liking.

If I had to pick just one, I'd probably go with the snow though. I love, love, love driving around in the snow.

SUN! Homg, sun!! I have been yearning for the sun for the past couple of months! I want to be able to go out and not have to worry about the weather so much. Toronto is being buried in snow today, it's insane!

Mitali D said...

Oh, I hate hate hate snow! I've been snowed in for 2 long weekends in the last month and half. Missed watching two awesome Broadway shows because they were rescheduled. I'll pick sun over snow anyday.

Im a beach girl at heart! Give me an umbrella, a beach towel, and a book and I will be one happy beacher! ;)

Gabrielle Madden said...

I prefer the sun. i hate the cold with a passion. I'm freezing now, and I live in Florida! I would definitely prefer a day on the beach just because of the fact that it'd be warm.

Michelle Flores said...

Easy, I prefer sun. I grow up in an island (Puerto Rico) and it was always hot now I’m living in the states and I can’t stand the cold ;( I’m a beach girl ;)

Do you prefer snow or sun?

Ohh that's a difficult question. I have always live in warm weather. Here in Venezuela we have like 35°C -always-. Which is nice if you go to the beach, but somedays (like today), its even warmer and I just want to be on the snow! There is no AC that helps :S

Ynysawdre Elderly Residents Association said...

This one is easy. Definately the sun. I really hate nbeing cold. I know you need all types of weather for the planet to survive, but if I could I would follow the sun around :)

Bianca said...

This is a tough one...

I really love a sunny beach day: sand, water, ice-cream, lots of time to read...

But then again, there is nothing nicer for me than to curl up with my back against the heater or the fireplace when its cold and unfriendly outside and read and dream and just enjoy the feeling of home that surrounds me.
So if I had to decide I'd go for snow.

Sun!!!! I've lived in North Daktoa / Minnesota my whole life and I'm about done with winters. I mean winter can be pretty and all, but trust me it gets old really really fast! Right now I'm so tired of bundling up my kids to go outside. I want to just slip on flip flops and walk out the door.

Kristen said...

Sun! We get a decent amount of snow, but I'm always wanting it to go away. When I was a kid.. probably more of a snow lover.

deltay said...

This is a tough one too! But I'm going to have to go with sun. Although the fact that we're covered in snow and stuck in the midst of winter might have something to do with it, I'm longing for Spring/Summer/sun at the moment. :)

Snow. I'm a snowboarder all the way... I'm a surfer too, though. Sun maybe?
Maybe my decision would differ if I had lived in a colder area. (I live in California) People want what they can't have right?
Love, Hannah

Neither. Rainy days are the best! It is the perfect day to just snuggle up on your favorite couch with a blanket, cup of hot chocolate, and a good book while listening to the rain pouring down. but I guess you can kinda do that with snowy days too...

Definitely sun! I love warm weather and not having to bundle up in a coat when I go outside!

I've only actually been in the snow about once in my life, and it was messy. I have to say however, that the second scenario described (with hot cocoa and a fire) sounds extremely cozy. So, I guess that means I prefer the snow. After all, when it's cold you can always put on extra layers and a blanket, but when it's hot, you can't exactly take everything off...

Annia Lennox said...

Snow. It's not that I don't like sun, but I don't know what I would do without the snow.

I love snow!!! I think it always make things look prettier :)

Definitely sun, I've lived in Alaska my whole life and I would take sun over snow almost any day.

I love the sun.. but I am going to have to vote snow on this one. We get so little of it where I am that it would be nice to have an abundance of it for once.

I am such a Florida girl, so sun hands down

DeNiSe said...

Do you prefer snow or sun? Good question I live in IL so i kind of get a tast of both and I would have to say that I am a snow girl I love the snow !!!!

Steph said...

I live in New England, so we get both, but both sun and snow have their downfalls, but I would say I prefer sun because you can go swimming, and if it's cold, it's easier to warm yourself up. Plus, there are those cool summer nights, when it's just perfect outside, but you're not standing there freezing your butt off.

Alicia said...

I prefer sun definitely. That's probably because I live in California, and where I live we don't get snow. Plus in the sun, I can read and get tan.

Spav said...

Sun, although I don't think I could spend all day in the beach.

Rebecca said...

Sun definitely!!!! I don't do well with the cold or snow. Snow may look pretty but I don't like how it stick around forever.

i am DEFINATELY a sunny person. i'm most definately a Florida girl, born and raised =] i dont do well in cold environments (:

Snow because it is rare in Georgia.

Oh, I pick the snow, a hundred percent!
My country is in the tropics, near the equator, therefore, unfortunately, no snow. But I long to see it! To finally see a snowflake! [ The sun is my mortal enemy, picking that is a violation of everything me (to blame for the tan-lines) :-p ]
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow... :)
