COOP 14: Gymnastics

Artistic gymnastics is hands down one of the most popular sports of the summer Olympics. I know it's always one of my must watches. Partly because I did gymnastics for a while in my early years and partly because it's just so amazing to watch these little girls do such astounding feats of acrobatics. They truly are phenomenal.

Gymnastics and figure skating are the two sports that make me wish I was twelve years old again, and that I could pursue that fantasy. It never was a dream, really, or I might have gone after it when I was twelve. Besides, a girl in front of me at my first meet took a header on the vault--I never really got over the fear of breaking my neck. And, as Nastia and Shawn showed us this week, you have to be fearless to succeed in gymnastics.

Today's bonus prize is a book that features two main characters that are both gymnasts: FRENEMIES by Alexa Young.

What happens when two besties become full-blown worsties?

Avalon Greene rules the fashion scene at her sunny SoCal middle school with a diamond-clad fist, calling out classmates for their fashion-do's and most unfortunate clothes-pas. She's determined to host the social event of the season—a soiree in honor of her forever-friendship with Halley! Unfortunately, Halley's new look is one thing Avalon just can't celebrate. . . .

Halley Brandon is just back from art camp and can't wait to share her funky new style with her best friend, Avalon. But when Avalon cries fashion foul, Halley realizes her best friend's true colors may clash with her own. Has their ultra-fabulous friendship finally gone out of style?

From sharing custody of their puppy, Pucci, to drawing up a list of who gets which friends, Avalon and Halley discover what happens when you battle the person who knows everything about you—and isn't afraid to use your secrets to get what she wants.

Best friends. Worst enemies. Frenemies.

Since gymnastics makes me think of all the things I dreamed of being when I was younger, that's the question of the day. What was your little girl (or boy) dream? Did you secretly want to be a princess or a veterinarian or a daredevil? Or did you want the spotlight as a pop singer or a movie star? Or (one of my favorites) something extra special, like a mermaid or a fairy?

GYMNASTICS CONTEST
Answer this question: What was your secret childhood dream?

PRIZES
(1) copy of OH. MY. GODS. or teaser of GODDESS BOOT CAMP
(1) copy of FRENEMIES by Alexa Young

Ooh yay! I was wondering when you were going to post about gymnastics! My fave thing to watch at the olympics. Nastia Linkin is awesome- especially on the isometric bars. =)

When I was younger I imagined myself as being a trapeze swinger! It just looked like so much fun- almost like they're flying! =D Lol, and this is despite the fact that I don't have an athletic/flexible bone in my body!

I love watching the gymnastics! That, diving, and track are my favorite things in the summer sport olympics!

When I was a little girl I wanted to be a fairy. My mum would always say there were little fairies in our bushes and they kept our flowers growing. I wanted to do that. I think that is partly why I believe in fairies...but also because of my religion. Lol.

My childhood dream was to be a firefighter or cop. When I was young I watched way to many shows about that stuff and it made me want to do that. My parents thought it was kinda odd though because most girls my age wanted to be a princess, not a cop or firefighter.

When I watch gymnastics, I get so nervous, I almost have to cover my eyes!

When I was young girl I wanted to be a marine biologist. The dream lasted quite some time, until I realized I'd have to take classes I wasn't very fond of, like math and chemistry.

I never had a childhood dream. O.O;

I always wanted to travel to another country... But I never cared for being a princess or a fairy. I never really think back then...

When I was younger I wanted to be a dolphin trainer. Ever since my mom had told me she wanted to be one, I wanted to be one. There still my favorite animals, but I think when I'm older I'll just stick with be a vet.

The gymnastics are my fave also. I was so glad Shawn won at least one gold. I love Nastia, but you really gotta love Shawn, she's so cute and short and smiles all the time!

I was a weird little kid. I wanted to be everything from a singer to a princess from another world to a writer to a teacher. I kept on changing my mind!

I love gymnastics and ice skating, too! I probably wanted to be a teacher. I don't exactly remember.

Oh man, my childhood dream was to be a backup dancer. Although I never had ANY training, I loved to dance and hoped that one day I would be a great dancer for the likes of Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake hahaha. I ended up taking the path of a cheerleader instead. That was a short career :)

My childhood dream was to be the older sister. I have an older sister and when I was young I would always be jealous that she got to do so may things that I could not. When I was younger I hated being the baby of the family. The thing I hate the most was being looked down upon, age and size. Haha. I would always wish I was the oldest child that got to do everything first and the fact that I would never hear, "your not old enough" or "but shes bigger than you" made that desire even more appealing.

i wanted to be a teacher, because i liked to write on chalkboards. either that or a mermaid. =)

When I was younger I wanted to be a librarian. I love books. I love smell of books. I love talking about books. I figured it was the PERFECT job.

I wanted to be a dentist. I think said goal was based solely on the fact that I'd heard they make lots of money. Tragic, I know. As soon as I realized all the nasty saliva (etc.) that would be involved, I changed my mind. In fact, I've pursued low-paying jobs (like being a writer!) ever since. ;-)

Gymnastics and figure skating are always my favorites too...

Obviously I'm not entering to win my own book...I just wanted to say hi and thanks for being so awesome. :) XO

My secret childhood dream... Oh I think I had WAAAY too many.

But sshh... I'll take you one.

I'd always wish I was wisked away somewhere far, like in the cartoons, to a place in trouble where they needed me to save them because I was the only one with powers special enough... kinda like my own version of Sailor Moon...

Tee hee... kinda silly huh?

I wanted to be a lawyer, then a politician, then an actor. I ended up none of these things and am much happier that way though I envy people who know what they want from a young age!

my secret childhood dream was to be the pink power ranger when I grew up.
Yeah, I was a wierd kid-instead of wearing pretty dresses and pretending to be princesses, I pretended I was the pink power ranger.

Gotta love Gymnastics. It makes me want to watch the movie Stick It.
Anyway, my secret dream was to travel back in time and be an aristocrat in medieval England. I would read books about that time period and it just seemed so awesome. Especially the clothes. The dresses were so elaborate and pretty. Plus, the holidays rocked. They had so much food and the marzipan creations sounded amazing.

I wanted to be a multi platinum singer. Though that dream quickly got demolished when I figured out I couldn't sing to save my life.

To be an author. But, my imagination doesn't stretch too far.

As a child, I wanted to become the first actress/singer/model/fashion designer. I wanted to do so much that I decided instead of settling for one career, I'd have them all! Currently, I am a middle school teacher and can't imagine being anything else. I'll leave my childhood dream to Beyonce since she carries all those titles! And she does them all so well.

I love watching gymnastics!

My childhood dream (before the writing began) was to become a dancer...more specifically, a Solid Gold dancer. Solid Gold was an old 80s show, like Soul Train and American Bandstand, but besides the audience, they had dancers. Before we moved to Texas (born in Chicago), I'd faithfully sit in front of the TV and watch Solid Gold with dreams of dancing on the stage. Sadly, the show was cancelled, so I couldn't realize my dream. :(

I love this question!

My childhood dream was to become a dancer. I did some dancing--2nd grade after school, 7th grade in the summer. But really, I wanted to be a ballet dancer specifically. I wanted to stretch and bend and have beauty and grace like all those magnificent ballet dancers. However, I was always moving as a child and didn't join any clubs, my parents never asked me if I wanted to do something, and I was kind of intimidated of girls who started at 3 years old.
It's still a distant dream of mine although I doubt it will ever become true. Including that I'm now 12 years older than the age most ballet dancers start and have flat feet... I'm screwed.
I'll still imitate them... I'll still watch them... and I'll still wish I could've become a ballerina.

I seem to remember wanting to live on a farm. Where we lived was around a lot of them and I had a friend who lived on one and had a pony and we kept pigs there, so... And I loved animals, so it all made sense to me :)

I always thought I wanted to be a teacher or forensic scientist. When I got to college, I changed my mind, though for a variety of different reasons.
