COOP 5: Basketball

Sport of the day: Basketball. Yes, I played basketball. In junior high, one year of high school, and on an AAU team my dad coached. I was a good shooter, an awful dribbler, and one of the most competitive girls on the court. (I think it's probably a good thing I didn't play more years than I did--my stomach would be full of ulcers right now.)

Not too much time to waste babbling about the sport today because we have two (count 'em, two) wonderful bonus prizes.

Prize #1: SHRINK TO FIT by Dona Sarkar (which features a basketball player who takes the lean in lean, mean fighting machine a little too seriously).
Losing weight is the solution to all basketball-star Leah Mandeville's problems, or so she thinks. Getting superthin will:

a) help her jump shot

b) make her look like America's Next Top Model

c) get the attention of the high school hottie who ignores any girl with a little junk in the trunk

And it's working, isn't it? Her boo is now crushing on her. Everyone says how good she looks. But the problem is that Leah doesn't feel good. And her life is taking a huge turn for the worse, despite her new "perfect body."

Prize #2: VIOLET IN PRIVATE by Melissa Walker (the third in her series about a string bean dunked into the world of fashion modeling).
Violet Greenfield knows she’s supposed to be a super-confident nineteen-year-old because she’s done runway shows in New York and internationally. But now that she’s finally headed to college, she’s afraid she’ll turn back into that girl who blended into the walls in high school. Vassar is just two hours away from New York City––her friends in fashion think she’s crazy to stop modeling now. And her old friend Roger is there...but things have been weird ever since they kissed. The real question is if she’s not going to be “Violet on the Runway” anymore...who is she?

This is the easiest contest entry so far. Do you wish you were: a) taller, b) shorter, or c) exactly your current height. Me? When I was high school age and young, I really wanted to be shorter. I wanted to be one of those petite little girls that all the boys like (at 5'7", petite I ain't). Then, in college, I wanted to be taller. Model-esque. Again, at 5'7" I'm no supermodel. Right now I'm happy exactly where I am. (Which might be why all my heroines are around my height.)

TENNIS CONTEST
Answer this question: Are you happy with your height?

PRIZES
(1) copy of OH. MY. GODS. or teaser of GODDESS BOOT CAMP
(1) copy of SHRINK TO FIT by Dona Sarkar
(1) copy of VIOLET IN PRIVATE by Melissa Walker

Enter below and check back tomorrow (and the day after that and the day after that) for a new contest. Winners of all contests will be posted on August 25th.

And don't forget the other contests:

Gold Medal Contest
COOP 1 I WANNA BE YOUR JOEY RAMONE by Stephanie Kuenhert
COOP 2 CRUEL SUMMER by Alyson Noel
COOP 3 HOW TO HOOK A HOTTIE by Tina Ferraro
COOP 4 REVENGE OF THE HOMECOMING QUEEN and TWISTED SISTERS by Stephanie Hale

Hugs,
TLC

Great reads! :)

When I was younger, I wanted to be shorter then my 5'8" height. I was taller then most of the boys. And my nickname was horse. Now, I love being tall.

I don't think I've ever really wanted to be shorter...except maybe when wearing some really high shoes ;) but I really like being my height of about 5'7''...even if I am taller than about all of my friends :)

I'm 14, almost 15, 4'10'' and not exactly petite. Even in high heels I'm 3 inches shorter than everyone else! (What do I have to do? Wear stilts?)

I just feel so small and breakable in comparison, like everyone is growing up and I'm just stuck like this forever.

I know I should love myself but it's hard when you expected so much out of yourself and those things don't happen. I've always wanted to be 5'8'' and I'm afraid I might never be.

Looks like there is a part of five seven people here! I'm the same as you were- In college, wanting to be model-esque! Especially since my boyfriend is 6'5"... A few more inches and he couldn't amuse himself by making me jump for things anymore! heh.

I'm 5'5.5" and I wanted to be shorter through high school because my sister and my friends were always shorter than me. Of course, I was also in choirs so being taller than them meant I never stood near my friends.

Nowadays, I sometimes wish I was maybe an inch shorter since the guys I know/like are barely taller than me and I want to be able to wear heels without being taller than them...

Michelle... just to let you know...

Petite refers to height (usually under 5'2"), not dress size (like 2 or 10).

When I worked retail clothes... I was always dragging women who had six inches on me out of petites... thinking that they belonged in petites cause they wore a size two. They would always wonder why the jackets and skirts were too short for them... The petite department is for shorter people!

So... you are petite... and cushioned... like me :)

LOL Sarah! Thanks!
That actually made me feel better!

Darn, I forgot my password and now I can't use my account!!

I like my height now, I guess... sure, barely cutting 5 3 is a shame, but it has its perks.

I rather stick with my current height and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm 5'8-5'9ish and tower over a lot of my friends. But I don't mind at all, I get compliments from everyone that I should be a model. It's convenient to be tall.

I would love to be two inches taller so I can be taller than my parents. But I seem to be stuck at 5'4"...

i'm pretty happy with my hieght. i'm somewhere around 5'2-5'3 and i think that's pretty okay for me right now. although i am one of the shortest in my class, but at least all the guys are taller than me. =)

I'm five feet three inches and I love it. I can wear regulars in pants, and If I want to be tall I can wear heels. Plus by best friend is the same height as me, and we make short jokes at each other, just because it's fun.

Lets see - well, I'm 5'5" now, which I'm ok about. when I was younger I wished so hard to be 5'10", my dad's height - not sure why, maybe thought it would be nice to look him in the eye? But I am completely satisfied with my height now because I am 2 inches taller than my 'older' sister and now my mom. I do like the fact that I can wear heels though, just to gain some height...

I love my height! I am short 5'3", but I pack a punch for a short girl. My husband loves standing me next to him, he says he feels like i'm dainty and he has to protect me. And he says it's cute =)
The only problem I sometimes have is regular pants are way to long on me. I can wear them but I look fat in them because they're all bunched at the bottom. So I have my special stores I go to, to find jeans. Except for skinny jeans I just put on heels with those and for those of you who have some cushion (like me) skinny jeans are extremely slimming.

Love my height! Sometimes I wish I were a slight bit taller (I'm 5'9), but in general, I think I've finally balanced out. I was sick for a while and was very underweight due to medication, and that made me look terrifying and not fun. I like being tall because I can reach the high shelves and grab stuff all over the kitchen!

It's weird though, talking to people who are much shorter than me when I'm wearing heels too . . . but I like how I am! I feel like I'm finally where I was meant to be body-wise, and it only took roughly 27 years to appreciate it! ;)

I have always been normal height, I'm 5'2 and 15. Sometimes I wish I was a little taller like 5'5 (I think when I'm older I'll reach that height) for now, I think I am fine with my height.

Great books by the way :)

Man, I would give anything for just a couple more inches. My legs are so short! It'd be nice to be like 5'8 instead of 5'5. My boyfriend is 6'5, so I'm always on my toes!

i'm five two and i'm super happy about my height but....sometimes i do wish i was a little itty bitty taller than that just like two inches because guys are just sooo dang tall sometimes haha

I’m five four and I’m happy enough with it because I can wear heals and not look retarded. Also, I know I have plenty of time to grow since I'm in eighth grade. Though, I would love to grow three inches taller because I want to stretch out the little bit of baby fat I have left.

I used to wish I was shorter, back before the other kids got their growth spurts. =]

I wished I was taller for a time, because I was tired of being smaller than everyone else, but I'm good now.

I can't find any reason to be a different height, and I couldn't change if I could! =] So I'm happy the way I am.

I'm 5'9"- 5'10" (not sure which anymore... sheesh), and I'm happy with my height. I loved playing basketball when I was growing up, and my height always helped with that. Now compared to some of the girls in today's world though I feel short. Sheesh. What are they putting in the water?!

Anonymous said...

I'm five feet...well maybe a couple of cm above that but five feet if you round down. and yes I'm asian and yes pretty much everyone I know is taller than me...like my friend Sam for instance who is almost 6 feet tall.

I would love to be taller. I'm almost 16 years old (2 months to go! Woohoo!) and a couple of months ago I met a TWELVE YEAR OLD who was taller than me. so sad

I really wish I was taller!! I hate being teased by my family and friends! :(

Though, sometimes...it's an advantage in being small! So I guess I'm fine with my current height lol :P

I am five foot three inches. At times, I love being short. But then when I have to get things altered, or I can't reach simple things it gets very frustrating.

The most frustrating thing about my height is the fact that I want to be a plus size model...but I am about 3-4 inches too short!

Anonymous said...

Yes. Perfectly happy. I'm about 5/4, a few inches shorter than my husband, but I've always liked my men a little taller than me.

Anonymous said...

Almost... I'm 5'4" and I would like to be 5'5-8", and I have a good chance at it.

Amber said...

This is an easy one to answer. I am 5'6" and I wish I were a few inches taller. 5'9" would be my perfect height - then I could be a supermodel like Violet!

Liz said...

When I was younger I wanted to be about 5'10" and all leg. But I stopped growing about ten inches short of that. Now I like my height, but I might add an inch or two or maybe three so that shopping for pants was not so difficult.

Anonymous said...

I'm not too thrilled with my height. I'm five two and a half. All I'm asking is for a couple more inches. Anything higher than five two.

Anonymous said...

I am 5'2" and have always been happy with my height! For some reason I've always liked being short/petite, and I wouldn't change a thing.

kristy-nicoleee said...

I actually like my height. I'm 5'0 which is really short and people always joke around about it but I don't mind at all. I like everyone being taller than me. :)
It just gets annoying when I have to reach up high for something but I still wouldn't change it! :)

Kelsey said...

Hmm. I'm five six in a half. But I think I'm going to get taller still. My parents are five ten and five seven, so I'll be at least five eight. I think I wish I was more petite, also, but I also like how tall I am now. And when I grow a few more inches, whenever that is, I think I'll like being that tall also. So yes, I like my height.

Unknown said...

I'm five three? Or something around that. I like my height, but my brother calls me short. My friends call me tall... But hey, I'm Chinese and short-ish, deal with it. I have huge feet though.

I'm five feet tall. I'm happy with my height. I can sift through large crowds easily. I mean, who complains about someone short standing in front of them? Plus, I'm shorter than my boyfriend.

Yes! I like my height perfectly just the way it is. But sometimes I wonder what it would be like if I were a bit taller or shorter.

I'm 5'5, and I'm pretty happy with my height. Personally, I don't think I'd change anything- but when I was younger I really wanted to be taller! =)

Yes!!! I'm just under 5ft 4in in...not too short, not too tall (IMHO). I actually stopped growing at 15 - so, I've been this height for 17 years. I'm officially the shortest in my family (not counting my nephews who are 4 and 6). I love it! They say good things come in small packages...

i am reletivly short for my "age" but quite frankly i would like to stay EXACTLY as i am. i have never had a prob with my height.

I am 5'2" and I'd dearly love to be a few inches taller. Clothes are never made the right length for anyone under about 5'6". And I can never reach anything.

Yes, I am happy with my height. I am around 5'5 and still growing.
