But the Track and Field athletes of the Olympic games seem to actually enjoy their sport. I do watch in awe as the long- and high-jumpers do things I could never, ever even consider doing. I tried long jump at our sixth grade field day and fell on my behind every time.
Just because I didn't enjoy Track and Field as an athlete, doesn't mean I don't enjoy a book with a race to the finish. Which brings me to today's bonus prize: HOW TO HOOK A HOTTIE by Tina Ferraro.
Kate DelVecchio is a businesswoman. When it comes to the matters of the heart, she has no time. Look at her own parents. Total dysfunction. At seventeen, Kate has one goal in life: to become a millionaire before the age of twenty. (Okay, twenty-five if she hits some bumps in the road.) And as far as she's concerned, college will only slow her down. Unfortunately for Kate, the one thing her parents do agree on is that they totally disagree with her strategy. And so the deal is born. If Kate can raise five thousand big ones by graduation day, her parents will hand over the balance of her college account to invest as she pleases. No college, no degree, and no way she'll ever be able to pull it off.
Surprisingly, it's where her heart isn't that's precisely what might solve her dilemma. Since when has love ever helped anyone?
Since Now.
When Kate reluctantly agrees to go to the sports banquet with the hottest guy at school, she stumbles upon a possible cash dow. The rest of the senior class is amazed that no-nonsense Kate could hook such a hottie, and one by one they approach her for help hooking their own. She doesn't know anything about getting guys, but for a hundred dollars a pop, she's more than willing to invent a Six-Point Plan. And how could that possibly backfire?
Personal recommendation: This is an awesome book by an awesome author. Her prose and plotting are tight and her characters are totally believable and fully fleshed. You can't go wrong with anything by Tina Ferraro.
On to how to enter this contest. As a writer, I'm very deadline driven. If I have a four month deadline to turn in a book, I'll spend at least 10 weeks of that time doing absolutely nothing-- er, I mean thinking and brainstorming. I'd much rather spend 4-6 weeks writing several hours a day than the entire four months tinkering away at the book. (For example, when I wrote my masters thesis, I spent several months "researching" and then write the entire thesis in about two weeks.) So, to enter this contest, tell me whether you're the type to plod away methodically at something, or do you (like me) prefer skidding into the deadline with hours to spare?
Answer this question: Do you work consistently to get things done early? Or do you barely make your deadline no matter how far away it is?

I love the Olympic contest idea!! I'm usually done ahead of deadlines.. Except lately. I always stress that something will come up and I'll miss it. :)

Done early? Riiiiiigggghhhhhtttt....
I've been known to wake up early in the morning just to finish term papers to turn them in on time...
and there was the time I turned a term paper in a month late...
I *have* to get things done early. I'm not one to let things linger. Although lately I haven't been as early as I used to be.
I barely make my deadlines esp in school projects. I have to stay up the night before the project is due to start and finish it. I'm a huge procrastinator. Every new school year I try to get things done early and I succeed for only 2 weeks and then I'm back to barely making my deadline.
Ah, I am a shameless procrastinator. I'll have a task in the back of my mind and will worry and worry about it but wait until the very last minute to actually do something. I am glad to hear that you can be successful doing this though and publish a book nonetheless!
I like to try to get things done early, but I have really sucky migraines that tend to screw me pu for a lot of that so it's usually me getting it done at the last minute or late....but I got really good at that ;)
I'm the president or the vice president of the procrastinators club that my friend and I plan to form at some point (this has been the plan for 6+ years now so you see how it is...). I actually had to choose a problem of mine to try to correct for one of my counseling classes. I chose procrastination and that was the only paper that I ever completed early. Otherwise, I always wait until the last minute.
That depends on the subject of work itself and the mood and time of year I'm in. If it's like a huge summative by the end of the year, I will start on what I know and leave it there until I obtain the rest of the info. I never miss deadlines at all. I always finish a couple of days ahead. Once in awhile, a week ahead of deadline. But finish it in the week or so I got it for something that is 4 months? Nope, not at all.

I am a professional procrastinator.
i ran track and field last year and it was pretty fun. i did the 4by 2 and we were an awesome team. i had alot of fun and plan on doing it again this year.
i get everything done in time or even before time. the sonner the better off i am so then i dont have to worry about it you know?
Normally, I procrastinate things. One time in the sixth grade I had a geography project and I didn't do it until the day it was due. In fact, the project was rather complex and I didn't have a printer at my house at the time so I had to make my dad go to his office with me to do the project. We stayed there till almost 12. I got the job done, I got a good grade... but I was worried the whole time I was doing it.
I try not to be like this, but it just never seems to work. It also happens with homework on a daily basis (most times its because I'm wrapped up in a great book, haha) but I do get things done.

lol Since most of my deadlines are school related, I'm usually struggling to get those finished last minute. With my book reviews though, I have those done ahead of time saved on my hard drive. That way I can just click a couple folders and post them on my site in a jiffy. :)
i barely make my deadline for pretty much everything! i tell myself time and time again "as soon as you have a deadline for something start it quickly and finish it quickly so you won't be so stressed trying to finish everything at the last minute" but do i ever listen to myself? no!! haha but i try though, okay no i don't

HELLO PROCRASTINATION, THY FRIEND IS ME!
Very last minute, let's just say this last semester, our big 8 pages English paper on our research question that we had to have tons of sources for... I wrote in 6 hours, more specifically 6 hours right before class.
I looked it all up, skimmed the books I had for sources and somehow managed to create it perfect.
[shrugs]
Procrastination at its best.
How long have I been at this again?
;}
I ususally work consistently to get things done on time, although sometimes I procrastinate alot, if it's something I don't feel like doing at all.
I am a huge procrastinator. -points to 5 pages of unanswered questions on Silas Marner due in a week- I always get stuff done on time though, thankfully.
I "have" to get projects for school and other things done way before the deadline. Since if I don't the only thing I think about is worrying if I'll get it done in time.
For me it totally depends on the project, though procastination certainly isn't a stranger in my life.
I remember a science fair project one year in high school. I totally put it off until the day before, then decided on a project, researched, did the project, created my big project board, wrote a paper, and still managed to get to bed in time to sleep that night before school the following day. Guess what though? For all my last minute efforts, I didn't do half bad. I didn't win, but I took honorable mention for that report and projects, and I actually have a ribbon somewhere around here to prove it. LOL :P
oh my goodness, I am probably the biggest procrasinator you will ever know. Just ask anybody who knows me. I know its horrible and I need to change that but its just so hard!!

I'm a procrastinator but I usually get my work done on time! :) Procrastinate with good time management I guess LOL
I procrastinate a LOT! I usually get things done last minute...
I am a huge procrastinator. 'Specially when it comes to large assignments like term papers. I have gotten a lot better this summer with getting things done early, as I had to be able to manage my time better with my three online courses.
Usually right on time, but I will sometimes save stuff till the night before it's due.
I barely make deadlines. My goal is to write at least one page a day. On good writing days, I write more than that. Sometimes, I can only eek out that one page. And God forbid anything personal crop up because then my concentration is all shot to tell for days on end.
I'm definitely an hour(s) to spare girl. I'm working on this as it's gotten me into trouble in the past.
Actually, it depends on the project for me, and possibly my mood also. But I tend to wait til the last minute to finish things. For example, I have a summer project due on the 2nd. Just started it yesterday after having two and a half months to do it. Whoops.
I think I'm a little of both - I'll work and plan ahead, with great intentions to be done early, but will most likely procrastinate finishing the project until the last minute.
Ohh I like this question. I always do things at the last minute. I'm really bad at that. Usually gets done the night before no matter how big the project. Usually something goes wrong and I have to hand it in late. You think I would learn from that right? Wrong, I still continue to do it again and again! Oh well, as long as I get it done I guess..
I am a champion procrastinator. I always have the intention to start early and I hate to have things hanging over my head, but I usually wait til the last minute anyway. I always make my deadlines though.
I like to think I get them done early, but truth? No I pretty much wait until the last minute. School projects are the worst. lol.
I am a huge procrastinator. But amazingly enough, I usually end up with good grades on projects I finished the day before.
Ugh. Deadlines. I prefer to get everything done as soon as possible. It doesn't alwasy happen, but if it does, I have weeks to do whatever.
I am so guilty of procrastination! No matter when a something is due, I always wait until a few days to a day before it has to be done, panic, and rush through it. It never fails.
I generally get things done on time, but whether or not it's early depends on how much stuff I have! But I admit that I do procrastinate sometimes ;)
I'd rather get things in one time cause it'd be less to worry about, but every now and then I get lazy...and end up generally really regretting it!
i used to be a procrastinator in college. but with age, i've gotten better about meeting deadlines. don't quote me yet, as i'll be writing under contract for the first time...soon? =)
Actually, I do both. Just depends on what it is. I'm an anal perfectionist, so, I like having things done in time. Sadly, I'm also a procrastinator, so, if it's something I don't enjoy, I don't rush, then end up barely making deadline.
I always try to meet my deadline as soon as I can. I hate the stress of not knowing if I will finish something on time, or be somewhere on time.
Well, this is the last day of the contest. (I think that really says it all.)
